Від початку російської агресії проти України у 2014 році Канада однією з перших країн світу зайняла чітку і незмінну позицію щодо засудження агресії РФ та підтримка суверенітету та територіальної цілісності України у міжнародно визнаних кордонах, у т.ч. невизнання спроби анексії Росією АР Крим та м. Севастополь. У відповідь на розгорнуту Росією повномасштабну війну проти України 24 лютого 2022 р. уряд Канади під керівництвом Джастіна Трюдо значно розширив санкції та інші обмежувальні заходи проти РФ.
Канада заборонила імпорт російської нафти, значно обмежила експорт канадських твоварів, послуг та технологій до рф, скасувала режим найбільшого сприяння для російських товарів, закрила повітряний простір Канади для російських та білоруських авіакомпаній, а також закрила свої порти для російських суден. Парламент Канади першим у світі визнав злочини РФ в Україні геноцидом проти українського народу.
За ініціативою уряду Д.Трюдо загальна сума виділеної військової допомоги у державному бюджеті Канади 2022 фінансового року склала 1,126 млрд кан дол.
У 2022 році урядом Канади оголошено про виділення 320 млн кан дол на гуманітарну допомогу Україні, яка спрямовується через міжнародні організації. Урядом Канади також оголошено про виділення 32,5 млн кан дол на допомогу Україні з розмінуванням, з яких 23 млн кан дол спрямовані на постачання необхідного обладнання, зокрема важких безпілотних машин для розмінування.
Канадський уряд під керівництвом Трюдо першим у світі (в червні 2022 року) ухвалив законодавство, яке передбачає конфіскацію російських активів та їх передачу Україні для відбудови, відновлення миру та компенсація жертвам.
Для українців та членів їхніх сімей, які шукають тимчасового притулку, запроваджена канадська федеральна програма спрощення оформлення віз, надання права на проживання, працевлаштування, навчання у Канаді протягом 3 років, а також низку соціальних пільг.
Since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014, Canada was one of the first countries in the world to take a clear and unchanging position regarding the condemnation of the aggression of the Russian Federation and support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders, including non-recognition of Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. In response to the full-scale war launched by Russia against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Canadian government under the leadership of Justin Trudeau significantly expanded sanctions and other restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. Canada banned the import of Russian oil, significantly limited the export of Canadian goods, services and technologies to the Russian Federation, suspended the most favored nation regime for Russian goods, closed Canadian airspace to Russian and Belarusian airlines, and also closed its ports to Russian ships. The Parliament of Canada was the first in the world to recognize the crimes committed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine as genocide against the Ukrainian people.
By the initiative of the government of J. Trudeau, the total amount of allocated military aid to Ukraine in the Canadian state budget for the 2022 fiscal year amounted to 1.126 billion Canadian dollars.
In 2022, the Canadian government announced the allocation of 320 million Canadian dollars for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which will be channeled through international organizations. The Canadian government also announced the allocation of 32.5 million Canadian dollars to help Ukraine with demining, 23 million Canadian dollars of which is aimed at supplying the necessary equipment, in particular, heavy unmanned demining machines.
The Canadian government under the leadership of Trudeau was the first in the world to pass legislation (in June 2022) that provides for the confiscation of Russian assets and their transfer to Ukraine for reconstruction, restoration of peace and compensation for victims.
Canadian federal program has been introduced to those Ukrainians and their family members who are seeking temporary protection in order to simplify the processing of visas, granting the right to reside, work, and study in Canada for 3 years, as well as a number of social benefits.
