З першого дня війни Чернігівська область стала однією з гарячих точок України та надійним форпостом на півночі України. Російські війська перебували на території області з 24 лютого по 3 квітня 2022 року. За цей час ворог атакував 56 із 57 громад області. Зокрема під окупацію потрапили всі населені пункти 36 громад, на території 17 громад відбувалися активні бойові дії, ще в 3-х громадах 8 населених пунктів були в окупації, а в 32-х відбувалися військові дії. Російські війська тримали у заручниках мирних жителів області без їжі, води, світла, тепла й можливості виїхати.
Обласний центр області знаходився в облозі російських військ. До Чернігова практично неможливо було доставити гуманітарну допомогу чи евакуювати з нього людей.
Під час бойових дій, внаслідок обстрілів, авіанальотів, ракетних ударів у Чернігівській області зафіксовані руйнування у 44 територіальних громадах з 57. Критичних руйнувань завдано в Чернігівській, Іванівській, Киїнській, Киселівській, Новобасанській, Новобілоуській, Куликівській територіальних громадах.
Втрати серед мирного населення – понад 650 вбитих (у тому числі 22 дитини) та понад 1100 поранених.
Одним із найбільш жахливих місць, де російський загарбник чинив страшні звірстава, стало с.Ягідне Чернігівського району, яке опинилось під окупацією 3 березня 2022 року. У селі окупанти облаштували штаб у місцевій школі, а на третю добу почали під дулами автоматів зганяти у підвал навчального закладу місцевих жителів: 367 осіб перебували у підвалі школи площею 197 м², в антисанітарних умовах, без води, їжі та в задусі. Серед заручників було 50 дітей, декілька немовлят (найменшій дитині було півтора місяці). Від задухи та хвороби 11 бранців померли (найстаршому було 93 роки). Утім ховати померлих одразу не дозволяли, тому дорослі і діти іноді по декілька днів проводили поруч з тілами своїх знайомих і близьких. Місцевим жителям довелося перенести страждання, катування, нелюдське ставлення.
Президент України Володимир Зеленський 3 квітня 2023 року відвідав с. Ягідне, де під час окупації російськими військами відбулися масові вбивства мирних жителів.
From the first day of the war, Chernihiv region became one of the hotspots of Ukraine and a reliable outpost in the north of Ukraine. Russian troops were on the territory of the region from February 24 to April 3, 2022. During this time, the enemy attacked 56 out of 57 communities of the region. In particular, all settlements of 36 communities were under occupation, active hostilities were taking place on the territory of 17 communities, 8 settlements were under occupation in 3 communities, and military operations were taking place in 32 communities. Russian troops held hostage the civilians of the region without food, water, light, heat and the possibility to leave.
The regional center of the region was besieged by Russian troops. It was almost impossible to deliver humanitarian aid to Chernihiv or to evacuate people from it.
During the hostilities, as a result of shelling, airstrikes, and rocket attacks in the Chernihiv region, destruction was recorded in 44 territorial communities out of 57. Critical destruction was caused in the Chernihiv, Ivanivka, Kyinka, Kyselivka, Nova Basan, Novyi Bilous, and Kulykivka territorial communities..
Losses among the civilian population – more than 650 killed (including 22 children) and more than 1,100 wounded.
One of the most terrible places where the Russian invader committed terrible atrocities was Yahidne village in the Chernihiv district, which came under occupation on March 3, 2022. In the village, the occupiers set up a headquarters in a local school, and on the third day, they began to herd local residents into the basement of the school with machine guns: 367 people were in the basement of the school with an area of 197 m², in unsanitary conditions, without water and food and suffocating. Among the hostages were 50 children, several babies (the youngest child was one and a half months old). 11 prisoners died of suffocation and illness (the oldest was 93 years old). However, it was not allowed to bury the dead immediately, so adults and children sometimes spent several days next to the bodies of their friends and relatives. Local residents had to endure suffering, torture, and inhumane treatment.
On April 3, 2023, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi visited Yahidne village, where mass murders of civilians took place during the occupation by Russian troops.
